That's a great list! People underestimate the power food can have over our physical & mental health. If people don't believe me, just look at how people react when they drink, or rather don't drink, coffee! Or when they "need" that sugar fix because their energy & hence moods dipped down.

I believe video games can contribute to a decrease in one's mental health. Most games are so life-like nowadays that people become desensitized to what's going on around them. They have a harder time grasping what's real & what's fake.

Sorry to hear of the loss of your wife! Have you found relief for your insomnia yet? There are herbals that can help but they take time. You can always try a prescription sleep aid as a temporary measure to get some sleep. Talk therapy may help as well.

Too many people are afraid of trying for fear of making mistakes. But that's what makes us human! If we don't try, yes, we won't fail, BUT we also won't succeed either. We need to get out of our comfort zones & continue to live our lives.

I stopped using Social Media as I find they are one-sided & just like with Mainstream Media, is for the WOW factor & entertainment, not for actual facts & news. I had to get off of it because it increased my stress too much. I find forums, while we can have deep topics, are just less stressful especially if they are moderated well. Social Media tends to have thousands of members so the moderation level goes down.

It depends on the GIF. Light-hearted ones certainly can lift one up. Humor is always great as "medicine". If one is feeling down, I would however stay away from darker GIFs or any that they feel would trigger their mental health to go down.

Those are some great movies! I'll add in my 5: Gaslight from 1940 with Ingrid Bergman. A darker movie. Ordinary People from 1980 with Robert Redford. Deals with PTSD. What's Eating Gilbert Grape from 1993 with Johnny Depp. This movie I've seen several times! Deals with Autism. Lars & the Real Girl from 2007 with Ryan Gosling. Light-hearted but gets the message across. Krisha from 2015 with Krisha Fairchild. Tension over a Thanksgiving dinner.

What advice would parents give to other parents who have kids with mental health issues? Do you try to be there with a listening ear? Provide resources, either locally or virtually that can help? Do you try to schedule play dates in hopes that having another kid who can sympathize would help? While I don't have kids, those are things I would do.

Are there certain times when your PTSD flares up? Something perhaps triggers you? A sound, a name, memory even? What do you do for those times when it acts up? I know of some people who find when they have a support network, be it a counselor or a good friend to lean on, it helps them get through those dark days.

For those who have been through depression, they know there are just those days when getting out of bed is a hardship. Taking care of simple tasks is daunting. Do any of you find when you write, it helps relieve some of the depression you feel? Do you find it helps you get through the day? Or flipside, have you found writing actually makes you feel worse? I have always loved to write & it's one of the things I can count on to lift me up, even if it's temporary.

What do people think about Energy Healing? Do you think it has some basis for treatment? Have you used it yourself? The premise of Energy Healing is breaking through blocks so the body can heal itself better. I tried it but wasn't convinced, but that's not to say I don't believe in it; it just wasn't the right treatment for me.

This is a good list! People should note too that you don't need all of these symptoms in order to feel a panic attack. Some have found they have certain triggers. Some realize that while they can't be a passenger in a vehicle, they can drive as they feel more in control of the situation. Work with what your limitations are.

I think the biggest issue is admitting you have PTSD & going from there. Those who are in denial will have a tougher time coping. Many people think they shouldn't have PTSD as there are others who have gone through something worse. But a mental disorder can affect any person, any age, at any time. Comparing yourself to others doesn't do any good as we are all unique & different.

If it's summer, I rather read the book as I can be outside on my swing. If it's winter, I tend to watch more TV & movies. Chilling with the TV appeals to me better when it's cold & gloomy outside. When it's nice out, I don't want to be indoors if I don't have to be.

I prefer Sci-Fi. Leaning towards fantasy. Nothing overly gory & no horror. Has to have a light-hearted storyline with some comedy as well to not take life too seriously. Ones I like are Stargate Franchise, Fringe. If people are into Sci-Fi & have other titles to share, please feel free.
