Sometimes people do not always realize they suffer from depression and with that being the case, it can sometimes be a shock to realize that you do or even what makes you realize you do. I first started to notice that I suffered from depression when I would wake up not feeling happy about the day ahead, not wanting to eat as much as I would normally, or would not eat at all. Also not feeling confident in myself and never feeling happy as well. Coming to terms with the fact that I suffered with depression helped me deal with it when I would go through bad days.

What made you realize you suffered from depression?

When I was about 7 or 8 years old, I noticed that I would start to feel sad for no reason. I never knew why I was sad and would start crying, whenever my mom would ask me why I was sad I would say that I missed my grandpa. (He had passed away not too long before I started feeling depressed.) I was sad about my grandpa's passing, but I was also too afraid to tell my mom that I was sad for no reason whatsoever. Throughout my life I have bouts of depression, I was very depressed when I was a teenager because I was afraid to become an adult and have big responsibilities. Now I get bouts here and there, but not often. I wish I had the courage to tell my mom when I was a kid. I think in my mind, I was afraid to tell her because I thought I would get in trouble, not sure why I thought that though.

Nothing would ever make me happy. No matter what I tried. I did get the odd occasional rush of happiness if I watched a movie or whatever but then I fell back down. I knew then I had to go get help. New Zealand is known for the 'It's OK deal with it' kinda attitude and years ago men would just have to get over their depression as people expected them to get over themselves. These days men's mental health is a lot more common.

Answer to this is quite simple. The fact I tried to kill myself twice speaks for itself. Both times were related to my inability to accept the fact my, at the time, girlfriend has left me for some other guy. It was my first love and I wasn't ready to copy with such thing after 2 years of dating.

The only time that I would say to have being depressed was when MMM ponzi scheme scam nearly rendered me completely useless. I lost all of my money in the ponzi. I couldn't eat well for months. I lost all my happiness. I was lucky not to have any suicidal thoughts.

Losing appetite is one of those acts that will show that one is depressed. You will discover that the excitement of life is gone as you would always want to sleep and do nothing. Sometimes,  it is never easy for those who are depressed especially when it has to do with losing money.
