FOMO, or "fear of missing out," is a phenomenon that is particularly relevant to Gen Z, who have grown up in a world where social media is ubiquitous. FOMO is a feeling of anxiety or insecurity that arises from the belief that others are having more fun or experiencing more interesting things than oneself. Here are some ways that FOMO can affect Gen Z:

Social media addiction: Gen Z may spend excessive amounts of time on social media, constantly checking for updates and feeling compelled to stay connected to their peers.

Comparison anxiety: Gen Z may experience anxiety related to comparing themselves to their peers on social media, leading to feelings of inadequacy or self-doubt.

Some other reasons for FOMO include:

Pressure to be constantly connected: Gen Z may feel pressure to always be available and engaged with their peers on social media, leading to feelings of exhaustion or burnout.

Difficulty focusing: Gen Z may find it difficult to focus on their own goals and priorities, as they are constantly distracted by social media and the fear of missing out.

Fear of exclusion: Gen Z may feel excluded or left out if they are not part of a particular social event or activity, leading to feelings of loneliness or isolation

It's important for Gen Z individuals who are experiencing FOMO to take steps to address these feelings. This may include setting limits on social media use, practicing self-care and mindfulness, and cultivating meaningful connections with peers outside of social media. It's also important for Gen Z individuals to remember that social media often presents an idealized version of reality, and that it's not always an accurate representation of what others are actually experiencing. Developing a healthy sense of self and a strong sense of personal values and goals can also help to combat the negative effects of FOMO
