How Can I Help Somebody Who is Suffering from Acute Depression

My neighbor is always indoors and doesn't have any social life. He doesn't like talking much and whenever I visit him, he always talks about committing suicide and his desire to end his life. He lost his job as a teacher in a private institution during the pandemic. His wife left him because he had no income. Since then he has been doing things just to hurt himself.

Everyone around him is worried he might commit suicide anytime. I would really like to help him.

How can I help this depressed middle-aged man?

If there is acute depression, there is nothing you can do except encourage him to visit a psychiatrist or take him to psychiatrist. The patient needs to take regular medication as well as visit psychiatrist regularly.

For starters, I believe that he should be taken into a therapy program because of the nature of his depression. Once he's alone, it's death thoughts all the time. If you can't get him to sign up for a therapy session, then someone would have to go live with him.

If you all like to help him, then my suggestion is to get a job for similar to the lost one. I understabd that he might be a good person in the back, but this stage you all should help him and talk to their wife also for continution and he will be on track within short time.

This happened because it can't be solved without a job or lack of funds within him.

Try to get him to seek help. Let him know about the suicide hotline if he's not aware of it. If he can see a psychiatrist, they can proscribe him medication. Keep talking to him so he's well aware that he's got someone he can rely on and who cares for him. Just be there for him no matter what and hope you can convince him to seek help.
