My wife died in October 2021 and I admit that until now I have fully recovered from the grief. In the past 2 weeks I have noticed that I would feel sleepy by 9 pm so I would sleep. However, I would wake up after an hour (sometimes at midnight) and even if I feel sleepy my mind was active as if fighting with my sleepy feeling. In other words, I think I have developed insomnia. But after 2 hours or so I would fall asleep and I would wake up by 5 am which is a good time to rise.

What can you suggest for me to combat insomnia? I used to experience that when I was a teenager so I don't remember how I was able to control my sleep pattern.

I'm currently suffering from partial insomnia as we speak and no amount of pills seems to be working for me now and it's not healthy to use pills all the time to sleep. My workaround is getting myself too stressed out and then I will be to weak not to sleep.

I have never suffered from insomnia and I don't really want to experience it because from what I've heard so far from people that are suffering from it, it's not something funny to deal with and it doesn't get cured easily.

When you cannot have a good sleep, you will experience a lot of problems, physical, mental, as well as emotional. Lack of sleep can cause diabetes and heart disease. When you cannot have good sleep you might also experience stress, anxiety, mood swings, and depression. If you can't sleep well, you will also experience strong emotions like anger, frustration, etc.

Whatever you have, but when you were unable to sleep, then it is bad for your health. I see you have mentioned about your wife, then what about children or current condition?
You need someone with you for more time to overcome with this problem. pills wont do much in this regard.

It's always very painful when you lose someone you love that's very close to you like a wife. You can't rush the grief no matter what you do or how strong you think you are.

I would just suggest that you take your time to grief very well and mourn her till you feel good. There's no drugs that's going to stop how you feel.

Also you should be open to another person loving you again whenever you're ready.

Sorry to hear of the loss of your wife! Have you found relief for your insomnia yet? There are herbals that can help but they take time. You can always try a prescription sleep aid as a temporary measure to get some sleep. Talk therapy may help as well.

It is not easy to lose a loved one and that is something that may take a very long period of time to rcover from. Have you adopted doing heavy exercises at night? That could work against insomnia.
