Stigma surrounding mental health?
There has been this stigma by people here concerning those suffering from one mental issues or another. The carefulness not to relate with them can be a strange one too. Have you noticed such stigma in your place or it doesn't exist there?
Re: Stigma surrounding mental health?
I have noticed a stigma surrounding mental health myself and a lot of the time, it tends to come from those who are older I find and don't believe that mental health is something that is real.
I have heard people say to those who are struggling "suck it up and get on with it" or "you are so lazy, if you weren't so lazy, you wouldn't feel like you do" and those are some of the worst things I feel myself you can say to anyone who suffers with mental health.

I think the stigma around mental health is always going to exist to a degree. I think it will continue to get better as more awareness is brought out concerning it, but there will always be those that have never really experienced such symptoms or are good at hiding them. Unfortunately, people lack empathy for those that they cannot relate to oftentimes and some people are just flat-out too plain dumb to understand how mental health works and how it can affect your overall well-being.
Re: Stigma surrounding mental health?
Common stigma surrounding mental health includes the belief that mental health issues are signs of weakness or personal failure. People often perceive those with mental illnesses as dangerous, unreliable, or incapable. These misconceptions can lead to discrimination, social isolation, and reluctance to seek help. Such stigma perpetuates negative stereotypes, hinders open discussion, and prevents individuals from receiving necessary support and treatment, further exacerbating mental health challenges.

Re: Stigma surrounding mental health?
Unfortunately I don't see the stigma of mental health going away any time soon. There's still many people who don't understand it, because they don't have mental health issues or perhaps don't know someone close to them who suffers from mental health issues. There's also another stigma when it comes to men. We are taught not to show emotion, and to basically suck it up which causes more issues. Remember there's no shame in admitting you need help!
Re: Stigma surrounding mental health?
Stigma surrounding mental health often involves negative stereotypes and misconceptions that lead to discrimination and isolation. People may fear judgment or dismissal, which prevents them from seeking help. This stigma can hinder access to treatment and support, exacerbating mental health issues. Challenging these attitudes through education and open dialogue is crucial for creating a more supportive environment.

Unfortunately there is a big stigma surrounding mental health, this is especially the case for men. Some members of society see people with mental health issues as weak, which is actually quite the opposite in my opinion. If your brave enough to speak up that your struggling, you are stronger than the rest of them!
