Everton was not going to be relegated despite the points deduction because they had a pragmatic manager in Sean Dyche. They ultimately survived because they picked up crucial wins against teams that were in the relegation zone.
Their win against Liverpool last season was simply one that helped built that confidence that they are going to survive last season.
It would have been very sad to see them get relegated as a result of the mistakes from their board and not because they were playing bad and losing matches. I'm very happy they managed to survive.
