Rest and recovery are crucial components of athletic training as they allow the body to repair, rebuild, and adapt to the physical stresses imposed during exercise. Without adequate rest, athletes are at risk of overtraining, which can lead to fatigue, decreased performance, increased risk of injury, and compromised immune function. Proper recovery ensures that athletes can maintain peak performance levels while minimizing the risk of burnout and long-term health consequences.

If you don't rest and allow your body to recover, you are only exposing yourself to potential risk of being injured by putting too much pressure on yourself. Simply because you want to achieve a particular goal without resting is going to be dangerous for your health.

Resting allows the body's muscles to recover and repair, which in turn builds strength. It also prevents overtraining. Constantly working out and training without recovery time can harm an athlete's body. This is why rest and recovery is extremely important for athletes.

Even though it is necessary for you to push your body in order for you to become very good in what you're doing, it is still advisable for you to find a way to incorporate resting in your routine of training so that your body is always going to be in a perfect condition to withstand whatever you throw at it.

Footballers are, for example, complaining about how they don't have enough rest as a result of playing too many games. That is an example of the need for athletes to have enough rest. When they rest well, they tend to perform better when it matters.

UEFA is making it very difficult for them to make most of their rest with so much improved match fixtures. So many players are not happy with the new format in the UEFA Champions League. It makes players exposed to injury. I heard they are talking about going on strike.

You have to rest in order for your body to recover. It's like asking why someone sleeps at night. It's the same thing when you're playing too, you need to rest or you're going to hurt yourself.

Some injuries never heals 100%. So, it's best to make sure that whenever you're hurt, you do all your rehabilitation process very well to make sure that everything heals completely, otherwise you'd get a repeat of same injury again.
